
Vidit shares joint-second position in Pool C, Levon Aronian qualifies for Semis
India #2, Vidit Gujrathi is the only Indian player who has qualified via World Cup ‘2021 for FIDE Grand Prix ‘2022. His journey in the tournament started on a rough note wherein he was defeated by GM Levon Aronian with the white pieces.
However in Game 2, Vidit bounced back by holding draw against GM Vincent Keymer. Turning point of the tournament was Round 3, wherein Vidit managed to outplay GM Daniil Dubov and secure one-full point on the board. In the last 3 rounds, Vidit managed to draw with all the 3 players and shared joint-second position with Dubov and secure 4 GP points. GM Levon qualified for the Semi-finals from Pool C. Other semi-finalists are GM Richard Rapport, GM Hikaru Nakamura and GM Dominguez.
Vidit will now participate in Leg 2 at Belgrade from 28th February onwards. Matches will start at 3 pm CET i.e. 7:30 pm IST. Remember top 2 players from FIDE Grand Prix fill the last two spots for the Candidates.
