Vidit Gujrathi qualifies for Chess World Cup 2021

India #3 GM Vidit has qualified for the FIDE Chess World Cup 2021 on the basis of his rating. The mega-event is scheduled from 10 July to 6 August in Sochi, Russia. This will be his 4th WC appearance, having previously featured in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

With this direct qualification, GM Vidit becomes the 4th Indian to qualify for the WC 2021. He joins GM Harikrishna, GM Aravindh Chidambaram and GM Iniyan P for the Men’s WC squad. As of now, GM Harika Dronavali, GM Koneru Humpy, WGM Bhakti Kulkarni, WGM R.Vaishali and IM Padmini Rout have qualified for the Women’s WC team.
