Vidit finishes as the Top Indian at World Blitz Championship ‘2021

Indians finishing off well at the marquee FIDE World Blitz ‘2021. Vidit Gujrathi and prodigy Nihal Sarin scored 13.0/21 at the world blitz event. Vidit finished as the top Indian grabbing 18th position whereas Nihal took the 19th position.

The highlight of the event for India #2 was certainly his win against the newly crowned Blitz champion – Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in Round 4. He started the second day scoring 1.5/2, before suffering two consecutive losses. Then he scored 4.0/5 in the next five games including a nice victory against Anton Korobov (UKR) in Round 17.

The young Indian brigade did not disappoint at all as Arjun Erigaisi and D. Gukesh occupied 24th and 32nd spot respectively. In the Open section, India got three places in top 30 and four in top 50, which is quite impressive. Among the women, GM Koneru Humpy secured fifth place and IM Vaishali R was placed 14th.

Vidit is currently supported by ONGC, Persistent Systems, Black Lotus, Lakshya Sports and Bharat Forge.
