Vidit finishes 2nd at Fall Chess Classic ‘22, St Louis Chess Club

Fall Chess Classic is a classical event conducted by St Louis Chess Club. A total of 3 Indian players participated in the Fall Chess Classic, a 10-player round robin event – Vidit Gujrathi, Surya Sekhar Ganguly in Group A whereas Raunak Sadhwani in Group B.

Vidit started off the tournament in style beating the Indian counterpart Surya Ganguly with the black pieces in Round 1. He was leading the tournament till mid-way before losing to Nijat Abasov in round 6 and slipping down the leaderboard. However, he bounced back strongly by winning the last 2 rounds on demand and finishing the event with a score of 6.0/9.

Chinese Grandmaster Yu Yangyi scored an unbeaten 6.5/9 to win the Fall Chess Classic Group A, followed by Vidit who finished 2nd. Raunak Sadhwani also finished 2nd in Group B. It was a tough tournament for Surya Ganguly as he could only score 2.5/9 with 1 win in the tournament. With this amazing performance, Vidit is currently ranked India #2, World #19 and has live rating of Elo 2730.

Vidit will be representing the Indian team at FIDE World Team championship in Jerusalem and then fly to Kolkata to participate in the Tata Steel Chess India.
