Vidit and Pragg gear up for a strong field at Tata Steel Chess ‘2022

Often called as the ‘Wimbledon of Chess’, Tata Steel Chess is one of the highly anticipated Chess events across the year. This will be the 84th edition of the mega-event and will also be the first major event of 2022. The event consists of two sections – Masters and Challengers.

Vidit Gujrathi and R Praggnanandhaa will be seen in action in the Masters section along with Carlsen, Caruana, Giri, Mamedyarov, Rapport, Duda, Karjakin, Dubov, Esipenko, Shankland, defending champion Jorden van Foreest and Nils Grandelius. Arjun Erigaisi will be making his debut at the Tata Steel event after having a wonderful run at the Tata Steel Chess India 3rd edition later in Kolkata. Arjun will be joined by Surya Ganguly and other 12 players who will fight for the top spot as the Winner qualifies to the Masters section in the following year.

This will be a 3rd appearance for India #2 at the Tata Steel event. In 2018, he was second to Dutch #1 Anish Giri and also participated at the Challengers section and eventually winning the event. In 2019, he competed in the Masters section and grabbed the sixth spot after having a good run at the event.
